Mr Stacey Smith, Editor-in-Chief of Pharma Tech Outlook, observed that in today’s highly competitive outsourcing sector in the APAC region, Bioworkshops deserves attention for rapid facility construction and its operating philosophy that puts delivering quality value to clients first. Quickly establishing an internationally-oriented service provider shows the strength of Bioworkshops’ rich experience in the biopharmaceutical field.

Outsourcing for biologics is a relatively recent practice in APAC, and the signs are that this situation will continue to expand in the next decade. Some functions previously considered compulsory for pharmaceutical companies to operate in-house, such as toxicology testing, are now more commonly outsourced. As cost-management and process-efficiency is becoming the key to survival, the basic nature of the pharmaceutical industry has transformed. Outsourcing is cementing a position as the industry standard, and a full suite of services has developed - from screening and lead molecule identification to pharmacological and toxicological testing, preclinical studies, clinical trials, marketing, and various scales production.

In such a highly competitive environment, well known pharmaceutical companies and life science decision makers are confused about how to lead in the competitive environment. Mr Smith observed that Pharma Tech Outlook brings decision makers together from mature organizations and institutions in the pharmaceutical industry, and constantly improving projects for customers. The delivery of quality milestones and such high efficiency refreshed our expectations. Therefore, as assessed by industry experts, we awarded the award to Bioworkshops. We hope that as a new force, more people can understand the changes that are taking place in this industry and feeling the speed of the rise of the new generation. In an exclusive interview with Pharma Tech Outlook, Dr. Nick Kotlarski, Chief Operating Officer of Bioworkshops reflected on some of the company’s achievements in its first year, “China’s biopharmaceutical industry is developing extremely rapidly with strong government and institutional support. We are benefiting from this overall growth and enjoy the new demand for a one stop CDMO that can provide from DNA to commercial production from a growing number of clients. To seize the opportunity we have had to be super-fast. Even though we were only founded in 2019, we have already made a lot of progress. It took only 122 days after the completion of construction of our GMP facility for us to move-in equipment, validate it all, and complete the first batch at 500L-scale. In the past six months, we have successfully delivered two projects, completing campaigns of 4-by-500L and 3-by-200L GMP drug substance and drug product. We are helping our customers solve difficult problems and delivering quickly with high quality.

We continue to expand our standard process technology platforms, and our facilities have been frequently audited and approved by clients. We are very honored to receive the award. Bioworkshops can provide services to cover the whole lifecycle of clinical drug manufacture. Our platform service gives clients confidence that they will get approval to develop their products in China as well as major international markets. We are operating an international platform and look forward to accumulating more experience, and sharing it with more clients and the overall industry with a brighter performance in 2021.
